Cousins and artmaking duo Lorato Anderson and Ishmael Majola created Pula: Blessings through Botswana to explore joy through two experiences of Botswana, Africa. This collection includes paintings, photos, and multimedia collages featuring salvaged fabrics from Setswana cultural ceremonies and traditional clothing. This shows navigates the complicated relationships the artists have to the nation which locals call the “womb of humanity.” The pair explore themes of locality, removal, and blessings interwoven through their born-and-raised and one-generation-removed perspectives.
